UMMARY
These readings and the responsorial psalm are reflections on the es-
sence of what LOVE really is! The reading from 1 Corinthians is the
familiar one chosen to be read at many weddings as it works to clarify
what LOVE isˎ and is NOT! Our spiritual health and maturity is the
barometer that will determine whether or not we truly can embrace the
understanding of real Unconditional Love, a.k.a. GOD˅S LOVE. In our
humanity, we often believe that love conveyed by some sort of sacri-
fice is automatically acceptable by God. What we fail to acknowledge
is that if that sacrifice is made with any sort of Expectation, it dimin-
ishes it to nothing. And, if we boast about our ˈsacrificeˉ then we
further diminish its goodness to have NO meaning. Real love bears,
believes, hopes and endures all things! Our wisdom and full under-
standing of LOVE is God˅s greatest gift to all.
R
EFLECTION
We all must embrace our life-long quest for the full understanding of
the meaning of this greatest gift from God called LOVE! As we age,
we will inherit wisdom that will aid us in this quest. The most impor-
tant note is that we must never cease to grow in this understanding
and practice of love for one and other and to the Lord, our God!
When we show unconditional love with no expectations to our fellow
man, woman and child, we are living God˅s greatest gift---be mind-
ful as to any expectations that you might place upon the one to whom
you convey your love, so as not to diminish its real essence!
