But through loss, we can experience another sort of joy if we allow
ourselves ˀ we have our memories of how these people touched our
lives and brought love, light and happiness. We remember a moment
of insight shared over the kitchen table. We remember holding hands
or touching foreheads.
As Paul and Jesus are leaving their friends, they are each asking God
to look over those left behind. Paul admonishes them to protect one
another, to help the weak, to be loving and giving toward one an-
other. Jesus asks that they share His joy with each other and en-
treats God to protect them in a world where evil will try to tear them
apart.
We must do the same ˀ share our joy with those we have and hold in
our hearts the joy we shared with those we have lost.

RAYER
Father God, look over those who have experienced loss of a loved
one. Grant that the memories be joyful and filled with love and light.
Fill us with your strength to share joy and light with others in our life,
especially when there are so many who would tear us apart. Amen
