one among you whom you do not recog-
nize, the one who is coming after me,
whose sandal strap I am not worthy to
untie.” What strength John the Baptist
had! He could sense that the Pharisees
were trying to trap him, and were up to
no good. However, he just told the truth.
How is it that telling the truth is somehow wrong? We can see that in
today's society, the same way it was during John the Baptist's time.
Truth can be inconvenient to those in power. We
have many examples in the Bible of strong charac-
ters who did amazing things; who were ordinary just
like us. We may not be called on to do such ex-
traordinary things, but we can do our best to point
out the truth when we see it, and stand up for what
is right.
Prayer
Your Word guides us through the good and the bad
times. It helps us see what is right. Help us to have
the strength to stand firm in our faith, and to tell the
truth even when it is hard or unpopular. Finally, may
we have patience and understanding for those who
have the courage to speak the truth, and encourage
them to do so. Amen.
