Summary
In this gospel Jesus tells of events that will foretell the end of
days and not to be misled by false prophets.
Reflection
: In this gospel Jesus is foretelling the things that will occur before his return but
what is His message? I believe He is telling us not to focus on the specific events
He is citing but to focus on the preparation of our lives.
An incident that I recently encountered will help illustrate what I mean. I was
standing behind a man in the grocery checkout where he was waiting to purchase
one item. He asked the clerk for his item mentioning that he believed its cost was
$5.00. When the clerk rang up the item the cost was $5.35. The man told the
clerk that he only had $5.00. He then asked the clerk for a different package of
the same item believing it was less expensive. When the clerk rang this up it was
also $5.35. He stood there for a moment completely unnerved. I quickly spoke up
and said that I had the 35 cents and reached into my pocket and placed the
change on the counter. The clerk took the $5.00 and the change on the counter
and handed the man his pack of cigarettes.
The man turned to me and said thank you. Now I have been thanked many times,
but his thank you was so filled with gratitude that I felt a little overwhelmed by
such a small gesture on my
part. Now had I reflected on
the specifics of this event,
that the man was purchas-
