tive that we provide our children with a strong spiritual foundation that is built upon the
rock of Christ. For example, within the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus provides parents a
blueprint for family discipleship. That is, we can teach our children about God’s blessings
(The Beatitudes), how to pray (The Lord’s Prayer), and how to treat others (The Golden
Rule). These Christ-centered principles take time, commitment, and action to im-part to
our children; that is, we need to act upon and model Christ’s words with our chil-dren.
The Book of Deuteronomy (Chapter 6) describes how to walk and journey with our chil-
dren, and prepare them for life’s winds, rains, and floods:
“Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with your whole heart, and with your
whole being, and with your whole strength. Take to heart these words which I command
you today. Keep repeating them to your children. Recite them when you are at home
and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them on your
arm as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead. Write them on the door-
posts of your houses and on your gates.”
Prayer
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever.
Seek the LORD while he may be found; call him while he is near.
I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me and have been my savior. Blessed is
he who comes in the name of the Lord…Amen
