Feed the hungry
Provide water to the thirsty
Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit prisoners
Provide care as we bury the dead
Share what we have with the poor
Many of us learned these and perhaps committed to memory the Corporal
Works of Mercy. All of these are fairly easy to do. But I'm reminded of the
three guest scholars from the event earlier this month. They suggested that
without a spiritual base it's hard to grow. Perhaps that's the reason that our
church also gave us the spiritual works of mercy:
prayerfully seek answers to difficult questions
Teach others about our God
look for ways to avoid
sinfulness
comfort the sorrowful
forgive others
avoid holding grudges
and pray
Prayer
Loving Father as this year
of mercy draws to an end
may we never stop being
merciful. And God
please shower us with
your mercy. We ask this
in your holy name.
