Reflection
There are many gospels of which I am unable to interpret, that is to say that
I don’t seem to understand the meaning of the words. This is how I felt
when I first read this gospel. Then with some reflection I seem to feel that
this is gospel is directing me to consider the current climate of our society,
confusion on the outcome of the presidential election.
I am suggesting that whomever you were in favor of, the result was a sur-
prise. So, this gospel compels me to consider how we collectively are pro-
cessing the result. There are many who are angry some are happy and many
who wonder on how things will unfold. These are all individual considera-
tions but what I think this gospel is asking us to do in our Christian lives is re-
flect on: “To what shall I compare this generation?”
During our lives, we are influenced by many things both good and bad: the
birth of a child; a death of a family member; a graduation; a loss of a job.
All of these events have an effect on our lives and they mold us into what we
become. Some refer to this process as maturing, or growing older or just get-
ting through life.
What is most important about this process is, who do we become and how
do we interact with others. From our good
experiences, we become elated and we are in
a great mood and other events really hurt and
we become bitter. Each of these outcomes
are normal. But what we have to guard
against is not to allow theses feeling to alter
our Christian lives in a negative manner.
