our Faith is the Resurrection, Jesus’ triumph over death.
Sometimes we let grief consume us and we lose sight of the truths of our
Faith. In this Christmas season, when we celebrate the birth of our Lord, let
us remember that the joy of Christmas is not so much that a child was born,
but that this Child is the Son of God who came to save us. As Father Niall
used to say, “We know how the story turned out!” We know that this inno-
cent babe would grow up, teach us how to live, die for our sins, and rise to
new life. We know through this child the new life was promised to us, too.
So be comforted in your sorrow as Jesus comforted the little lost lamb.
Know that there is room for great joy in all the twists and turns of life. There
is a promise of life eternal.
Prayer
Dear ever-faithful and loving God,
Thank you for the gift of joy. Please help us to remember that you are al-
ways here for us no matter what. While we are in awe of Your power, we
take comfort in your gentle love. Please help us to share Your love with all
we meet because we are all your children. Please help us bring comfort to
those who sorrow.
