On February 20, 2016 the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton class met at Alemany High School, Mission Hills.  Our next class will also be at Alemany High School, Mission Hills on March 5, 2016.  (Please click here to read all of our experiences of the bi-monthly  Deacon formation classes).

Dr. Paul Ford from St. John’s Seminary presented today on Sacraments and Confirmation. His presentation covered various aspects about the sacraments.

A key item that he presented was how baptism is linked to both Eucharist and Confirmation. Although we receive the Holy Spirit in Baptism, the gifts and fulfillment of the Holy Spirit happen in Confirmation. Baptism is also is where our journey to table of the Lord, that is Eucharist, also begins.

One other point made by Dr. Paul is the public nature of sacraments. Sacraments have “some assembly required”. That is to say, by their public nature, there is the need for some of the assembly or a representative of the assembly to be present.  We, by our baptism, are welcomed into the body of Christ, as we journey in our formation, we do so with the community, with the entire body of Christ.  We are strengthen and enriched by the witnessing of the sacraments, not only those of our own families, also with those who journey with RCIA, Confirmation, First Eucharist, Matrimony, also with Funerals and Vigils.  As the body of Christ we all are called to participate in as well as be a part of all the sacraments, all starting with Baptism, to truly be the Body of Christ in our faith formation.

We are at the Religious Education Congress in Anaheim and will be putting together information about Youth Day and some of the sessions that we attended.
