school community adopted families of need for Christmas. Each class
“sponsored” a family, and they worked together to provide them with gifts
that consisted of mostly jackets, sweaters, socks—staples that we can take for
granted. It was satisfying to see a truck full of gifts filled for those on the
very margins of society, and to know that our community is willing to reach
out in ways big and small for their brothers and sisters in Christ.
Prayer
God of hope and Love, you gave us your son as a sign of hope for the
world. He came to us in a lowly manger, to show us the extraordinary in the
ordinary. Help us to be open to the wonders of life in creation; and help us
to recognize how the infant Jesus brings hope, joy and love to a world that is
so often dark and in need of transformation.
Amen.
