jealous? They don’t even call him Jesus or Messiah. Instead, he’s “the one who
was with you.”
John’s response reminds me of someone who has fulfilled his or her goal. Head
to the finish line of any race and see the elation of the athlete’s crossing the fin-
ish line. That’s how we see John’s face at the end of this reading. His joy was evi-
dent that Jesus will continue, as had been directed. That there is one Baptism for
the forgiveness of sins.
Prayer
Lord, help us calm our minds
So that when we are in your presence,
We know that we are with you, always.
