Reflection
In today’s gospel, there are baptisms. Jesus in one area and John in another. Be-
fore we move on,
let’s first reflect,
as Californians,
that John was in
Aenon because
it had an abun-
dance of water,
as other areas
had a lack.
Something we
can all empathize
with.
Jesus wasn’t just
baptizing, he also
spent time with
his disciples.
That’s important.
To be a disciple
of Jesus meant it
wasn’t enough
just to be bap-
tized by him.
As Jesus and John were baptizing, there were questions, and in the context of
the Jewish law, well-founded questions on what was correct or incorrect. In the
context of the question there was an implicit hierarchy of which baptism was
legally correct or more important.
These questions caused John’s disciples to question him about Jesus. Were they
