day from the book of 1 John. Walking in God’s light leads to fellowship with
others, and the cleansing of our sin. But when we mislead ourselves into think-
ing we have no sin, then we don’t need God. Our path becomes dark, and “we
lie and do not act in truth.” (1 John 1:6).
When we are in darkness, our cry to God becomes urgent, heartfelt, and real.
Our “cold and broken”Hallelujah is a recognition that we can’t do everything
ourselves. That Hallelujah is a cry for God to accept us as we are, and to wel-
come us back into His light.
Pope Francis preached that we have a responsibility to reach into the darkness,
to acknowledge those among us who are suffering, and bring them back into fel-
lowship. By doing so, we are fulfilling Christ’s mission and
truly walking in His light.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to not be so pleased with our-
selves that we neglect to see our brothers and sisters who
are suffering. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to
do good deeds for others, which helps them and also makes
us feel good. Please remind us that walking in your light is
both a blessing and a call to bring others closer toYou.
Amen.
