Summary
John the Baptist directs two of his disciples to find Jesus and ask him if
He is the true Savior.They say to Jesus,“John the Baptist has sent us to
you to ask,‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for an-
other?’”
Reflection
At times we may be like John, doubting
and questioning our faith. During this
Advent time of waiting, it’s good to re-
flect on how our faith can be challenged
with questions or doubts. This gospel
has John sending two of his followers to
find Jesus and ask Him if He really is the
true Messiah. John may have thought
that Jesus was too humble and not bragging enough about who He
was. Perhaps John thought that people didn’t believe him when Jesus
proclaimed that He was the Messiah. He probably wanted Jesus to tell
the crowds loud and clear that He was the true Messiah. John needed
a little validation.Was John not convinced that the person he was
prophesying about was the real deal? I wonder why John sent his two
disciples and didn’t go himself to ask Jesus the question.Was he afraid
to confront Jesus himself? That’s hard to believe since John seemed to
be more outspoken. Jesus was not that
way. When Jesus performed miracles He
did not brag or boast. He was humble
and allowed people to come to their own
conclusions. When the two disciples chal-
lenged Jesus with,“should we look for an-
other?” Jesus did not get angry or yell to
