John is imprisoned,
he sends his disci-
ples to visit Jesus
and strengthen their
faith in Jesus as
their savior. Mat-
thew also illustrates,
through the words of
Jesus, how signifi-
cant John the Bap-
tist is in announcing
the coming of the
Messiah. The Gos-
pel concludes by contrasting that 'there has been none greater than
John the Baptist¯ however, 'the least in the kingdom of heaven is
greater than he¯. This once again, as in the second reading, illus-
trates the importance of 'realizing our precious fruit¯, our ultimate
salvation and place in God?s kingdom.
Prayer
Lord, patience is a virtue that is clearly worth struggling for; please
bless us with the strength, fortitude and faith to be comfortably pa-
tient with ourselves and others and to allow for us to graciously ma-
ture under your guidance and direction.
