We are expectant
people, hoping
and praying for
the fullness of
this experience of
right relation-
ships.
Lord, make us
turn to you; let us
see your face and
we shall be saved.
Psalm 80
St. John of the Cross was a 16
th
century Carmelite priest who is known for
being a mystic and a poet. He was a man who described an authentic and
honest understanding of our spiritual lives. He is famous for describing
'The Dark Night of the Soul¯ where we doubt and wander aimlessly in the
dryness of a desert. He also described the power of experiencing the
'Flame of the Living Love¯. He invites us to seek God in all things, both in
the dark and difficult times and in the passionate and joyous times. He
would readily say 'Blessed is he who have seen you (God) and who falls
asleep in your (God?s) friendship¯ Sirach 48:11.
So let us pray today in the middle of this Advent season that we continue
to turn to God, looking into God?s face, into God?s eye?s, so that when we
come to Christmas Day we will know of God?s love for us and all people so
that we can rest in God?s friendship. Amen!
