according to your word¯. Now I could
focus how terrified and doubtful I
think I would feel in Mary?s position,
but indeed I don?t even need to look
to such an extreme case to see fear,
doubt, and the desire for control. All
of these things are present for me in
my everyday life. So as we remember
the immaculate conception and
Mary?s courageous yes, we must ask
ourselves in what way is God asking
us to say yes. I imagine we can find
an overwhelming number of opportu-
nities to say yes to God. We may be
able to begin with ourselves. When
we focus on ourselves, is it in a nar-
cissistic way or is it in a loving, growing, giving manner? Looking inward is not a
bad thing. We just need to ask ourselves
what
or
who
we are looking for. Are we
looking for God? Will we say yes to him?
One of my favorite sayings is ' You are God?s favorite hiding place¯. In this season
of Advent as we anticipate the coming of our Lord, may we take the time to notice
our Lord who is already here. When we find him and he finds us, may we follow
Mary?s example and say yes to him.
Prayer
Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and
blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sin-
ners now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
