Isaiah 26:1-6
Psalm 118:1 & 8-9, 19-21, 25-27A
Matthew 7:21, 24-27
Summary
In Chapter 29, Isaiah prophesies about end times when there will be
judgment and deliverance of Jerusalem and finally there will be an
end to pride, ignorance and injustice. The psalmist echoes Isaiah in a
positive way, proclaiming the soul?s longing to 'gaze on the loveli-
ness of God¯. The Gospel message affirms that it is through our faith
in God that we are redeemed, that we may truly see God?s wonders.
Reflection
St. Nicholas was born during the third century to wealthy parents who
raised Nicholas to be a devout Christian. They died when he was
quite young and Nicholas resolved to use his inheritance to assist the
needy, the sick, and the suffering. He also had a concern for sailors
and ships. He became a bishop while still a young man and was jailed
during the persecution of Dioclecian. He died in 346 and was buried
in his cathedral Church in what is now Turkey. His remains were
moved to Bari, Italy by sailors who feared desecration of his tomb.
There are many stories written about Nicholas which can be found at
