Summary
Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, They have
taken the Lord from the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple
ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first. He went into the
tomb and saw the burial cloths there. The one who had arrived at the
tomb first, and he saw and believed.
Reflection
Reflecting on this Gospel I find it interesting that we don?t necessarily
need to 'see to believe¯, contrary to the phrase 'seeing is believing¯.
As Simon Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb and saw the
empty burial cloths, they saw and believed. As a Catholic, I will tell
you that I do not need to necessarily see to believe. I?ve never had
the privilege of actually seeing Jesus, but seeing can mean so many
different things and come in many different forms. The older I get,
this has become increasingly apparent in my life as I struggle with my
conversion. I don?t need to see God to know that he is very present.
God is the love I feel from my family, the friendships I am blessed
with, the heartache that life brings which in turn leads to a stronger
bond with my husband?the list is endless.
It would have made it so easy to have actually laid eyes on our Lord
and have had an instant belief but then I would have missed out on
the rich journey that continues to take place in my life. Besides, I
