Come and learn about the life, ministry, and legacy of Cardinal Timothy Manning, a significant figure in the history of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Ordained a priest in 1934, Timothy Manning was named Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles in 1946, Bishop of Fresno in 1967, and Archbishop of Los Angeles in 1970. Pope Paul VI created him a cardinal in 1973. He retired in 1985 and died in 1989.

During his years as Auxiliary Bishop and Archbishop of Los Angeles, Cardinal Manning ordained 349 priests and confirmed approximately 650,000 people. He participated in two papal conclaves, including the historic 1978 conclave that elected St. John Paul II.

Msgr. Clement Connolly served as Cardinal Manning’s secretary, giving him a unique personal perspective on Cardinal Manning’s ministry and leadership.
